At Indianola Dance Academy, our dress code supports focus, safety, modesty, and proper technical instruction. When dancers come prepared and dressed appropriately, it allows instructors to give the best feedback while minimizing classroom distractions.

👗 General Attire (All Students)
- Dancers are required to wear black leotards, bike-tards, or unitards.
- Form-fitting black tanks, shorts, capris, or leggings are also acceptable.
- Clothing must be modest and age-appropriate. If you’re unsure about something, feel free to ask—we’re happy to help!
👦 Male Dancers
- Boys should wear black shorts or pants with a plain white t-shirt or tank top.
💇 Hair Expectations
- Hair must be pulled away from the face in a neat style such as a ponytail, braid, or secure half-up option.
- Headbands or clips may be used for shorter hair to keep it out of the dancer’s eyes.
- We do not require buns, but hair should be neat and secured for safety and visibility.
👟 Dance Shoes
- Appropriate shoes are required for each genre.
- Our Nimbly online store offers quality, affordable shoes specifically selected for IDA classes.
- We also offer:
- A borrow bin of extras at the studio
- A shoe exchange program where gently-used shoes can be purchased at a discount
- Credit for families who donate gently-used shoes in good condition
💍 Jewelry
- For safety, all dangly or large jewelry must be removed before class.
- Modest stud earrings and permanent jewelry are allowed as long as they do not interfere with movement or pose a safety risk.
🎨 Dress Code Variations
We’ll occasionally host theme days or special weeks where dancers are encouraged to wear colorful leotards or fun costumes—while still following our expectations for fit and safety.
⚠️ Dress Code Policy
Consistency is key. Here’s how we handle dress code violations:
- 1st Offense: Friendly reminder
- 2nd Offense: Parent will need to bring proper attire before class continues
- 3rd Offense: Dancer may need to be picked up early
