What Shoes Does My Child Need at Indianola Dance Academy?
Each class style has its own required shoe type:
- Pre-Dance & Pre-Pointe – Ballet shoes
- Combo Jazz & Hip Hop, Baton, Jazz, Musical Theater – Black jazz shoes
- Tap & Ballet Combo Classes – Black slip-on tap shoes and ballet shoes
- Tap – Black tap shoes (style varies by level and difficulty)
- Acro – Student preference: ballet shoes, jazz shoes, acro shoes, or lyrical half soles
- Lyrical – Lyrical half soles
- Hip Hop & Boys Dance (non-combo) – All-black tennis shoes (we carry some new high-top options and a few gently used pairs)

Yes! Our Nimbly store is available for online ordering if you can’t make it to the studio. You’ll still get the same quick shipping and easy exchange options. We do offer free shipping when purchased in studio, and there is a shipping fee online.

No problem—just get fitted during or after class, we’ll buy your loved shoes back for another student and order you new shoes if we don’t have them in stock.
Q: Do I need to buy new shoes every year?
Not always. If your dancer’s current shoes still fit well, match our style requirements, and are in good condition, they can keep using them.
Q: Do we have to dance at IDA to be fitted at IDA?
Absolutely not! While I’m very good at fitting our dancers for the styles we use, if your studio uses Revolution Dancewear, I can quickly help you determine the best fit for your dancer.
