My daughter graduated high school this year, as we were going through dozens of costumes many memories of our years at the studio flooded my mind. Sequins, lace, chiffon, spandex, bobby pins and so so many rhinestones filled our living room, as well as, pointe shoes, lyrical half soles, and batons. Many of our families have had the same experience as they prepared for graduation.
Walking down memory lane with my own dancer for graduation, followed by taking the steps to reopen Indianola Dance Academy after four seasons away, I thought a lot about our studio. I thought about the expectations I placed on my staff and myself for choreography, costuming, song choices and the overall atmosphere of IDA. I thought about what our new and returning students deserve for their experience. We have spent years priding ourselves on clean, age appropriate and tasteful performances showcasing our dancers abilities and encouraging growth while providing a safe environment.
There was one routine throughout the years as a standout that held a mirade of memories, laughs, struggles, pride and ultimately a great example of our all around goal as a studio. A dance mom made all the costume pieces by hand, the kids practiced for hours every week, they competed tirelessly and I think it may have been my favorite, if not in the top three, of all the dances I choreographed.

Twenty two dancers (Joey not pictured) rocking out to the timeless hit, Footloose. It was the season of 80’s hits, we all had a blast with partner work, individual tricks, a little bit of tumbling, breakdancing, and new skills along with Joey’s high toe touch…this routine was one we all talked about often.
We are elated to come back this season with amazing memories for your family while giving your dancer an education rooted in technique, focused on excellence, and where no kid feels lost in the midst. At Indianola Dance Academy, your dancer has the opportunity to compete, perform, or have a fun hobby. There isn’t one group that holds complete focus of the staff, every class, every student and every family is an important part of our studio. We look forward to ensuring every class has routines that are thoughtfully put together and every dancer feels like an integral part of their group.
If you want to discuss how we can expand your dancers’ experience, build their skills, improve their technique or even begin their journey if this is their first year…enroll, contact us and follow our social media today.
